Employment Training
Most people think they need to complete a formal education program to get a job, but there are other ways to get the skills you need for a new career.
This web page presents critical tips for employment training.
Introduction
Keep your goal in mind when selecting a skill-developing program. What type of job are you trying to get? What are you trying to accomplish by completing the program? Considering how your goal will be achieved as you evaluate programs is helpful. Some programs require you to complete several courses, while others can be completed with only one or two classes. Some programs are entirely online, and others need you to visit a physical location. Some programs teach only the basics of a skill, while others are more detailed. So, think about the job you want to be qualified to do and the skills you'll need to learn.
Process
Here are seven things to consider when considering a training program.
- Training is a lifelong process. Your skill from a few years ago
may no longer be adequate, so plan to get more training, even in a profession you already know.
- Types of training programs range from the formal education
offered by a college to less formal training programs offered by a trade school.
- The job market is competitive, and certified training will
make you a better candidate.
- Focus on a career goal rather than trying out different
training programs.
- Be patient, flexible, and tenacious.
- Look around to determine what training is available.
Many organizations offer training or apprenticeships, so investigate as many
programs as possible.
- Online training may be acceptable for some careers,
especially computer-related ones, but others require hands-on training.

While Cochise County does not offer as many training programs as
Tucson or Phoenix, there are still opportunities for training here.

and instructor-led online training in various computer fields.
- Goodwill of Southern Arizona. Goodwill has a thrift store but

workforce site. They offer various job-related resources, including information on apprenticeships and
other training opportunities.
